On July 2, the Sustainable Development Working Group of China Polyurethane Industry Association organized a kick-off meeting for the sustainable development of the entire industry chain of China’s polyurethane industry, marking that the sustainable development work of China Polyurethane Industry Association has entered a new stage, covering the entire life cycle from raw material sources, factory manufacturing to product application and recycling.
The participating companies held a heated discussion on topics such as sustainable development in laws and regulations, policy tracking, unification of carbon footprint calculation methods, formulation of industry basic data, industry white papers, improvement of certification systems, expansion of the application scope of sustainable development products and consumer education. 12 polyurethane enterprise representatives shared their respective practical cases in sustainable development, covering low-carbon comprehensive utilization technology, resource recycling, bio-based material application, corporate sustainable development concepts and actions, and circular economy.
The meeting proposed that the Secretariat of the Sustainable Development Working Group of China Polyurethane Industry Association should take the lead in integrating the excellent practice cases of upstream and downstream polyurethane enterprises in the entire life cycle, and complete the writing of the best practices of sustainable development in the polyurethane industry in 2024 by the end of September this year, and carry out publicity and promotion to enhance the image and competitiveness of the industry, promote innovation and technological progress, guide and promote the healthy and sustainable development of the entire polyurethane industry, and then gradually form the Polyurethane Association’s Sustainable Development Annual Report.
The Chinese polyurethane industry has taken solid steps in sustainable development. From the initial attempts to the current full promotion, the industry’s participation and awareness have continued to increase. In December 2020, the China Polyurethane Industry Association established a sustainable development working group and carried out related work around the isocyanate industry. The council held this year proposed that based on the previous work, sustainable development work will be extended to the entire industrial chain of the polyurethane industry.
In the future, the Sustainable Development Working Group of the Polyurethane Association will focus on green energy, alternative raw materials, advanced manufacturing, safe and environmentally friendly technologies, green logistics, product innovation applications, polyurethane recycling, and other directions with the joint participation of the upstream and downstream of the industry chain, focusing on green, low-carbon, environmental protection, recycling, ESG, and other topics, promote the sustainable development of the entire industry, and contribute more industry wisdom and strength to the realization of the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and China’s “dual carbon” goals.
